“Feu de Bois” or “Firewood” has an intense woodsy scent and at times it might smell intoxicating, heavy and overwhelming. I know the literal translation from French into English is "Wood Fire" and it is written on Diptyque's Website this way. Personally, I believe the adequate term is "Firewood" and it sounds a lot better to my ears than "Wood Fire".
Diptyque Feu de Bois is a scent that one will enjoy gradually and appreciate it for its smokiness and warmth. Somehow Feu de Bois reminds me of Serge Lutens Feminite du Bois, with that deep smoky woodsy note. Feu de Bois, in my opinion, tends to have facets, the notes seem to chase each other on a loop, now it smells woodsy than the smokiness appears.*The notes have been written as described on Diptyque's Official Website.
Nostalgia is a powerful emotion and when winter comes around each year, humans become nostalgic for a cosy fire, and its smell of smoky wood. Humanity since a long time ago has depended on fire to make life better, for warmth during long winters, cooking food etc. One might notice how primal fire is and how much it has helped humanity evolve over the centuries, but I digress. The longing for a cosy fire is still felt in the intimacy of one's modern home. This is where Diptyque comes with a product that might be of some help to soothe one's nostalgia for a cosy fire.

Feu de Bois makes me picture myself in a dark log cabin or wooden chalet in the mountains, feeling cosy in front of a warm fireplace on a cold day. Outside everything is covered with snow and it is a gloomy and grey day, but I am close to the fire feeling all warm and snug. On the background Cinders – Last Year’s Winter is playing and I am humming along.

Diptyque Feu de Bois spreads a powerful scent without even being lit. If you are a fan of slightly heavy scents, woodsy and smoky scents, this candle might be the right candle that will keep you warm and fuzzy all winter long.
Different candle jar editions of Feu de Bois exist: a Grey coloured glass jar and the huge five wicks Indoor & Outdoor Edition scented candle in clay earthenware created in the famous Virebent pottery from the South of France. Other Diptyque candles come in even nicer jars than the standard see-through jar and they are very tempting. Well... since Christmas is right around the corner, I just might splurge on another Diptyque candle and when I say splurge, I really mean it. Diptyque's aesthetic comes at a cost and it’s not small but you will get your money's worth both in looks and scent wise. Convenient enough, the glass jar can be used for other aesthetic purposes when the candle’s glowing life has ended.

In the end, I would like to add a small advice to my Dear Reader. A Scent is like a work of art, it strikes different chords within each individual. The interpretation of a work of art is very personal, profound and unique for each and every human being. If possible, test a Scent for yourself after reading a review. Also, do not forget to Love, Enjoy and Wear your Scent of choice Proudly.
